Getting started

A quick tour of how kashi.io works in your browser — and what changes when you use a cloud account.

Markdown and preview — Your note is stored as Markdown (plain text with # headings, lists, etc.). Use the view buttons in the title bar: Split shows editor and preview together; Markdown is editor only; Preview is the rendered page. Edits in the preview update the Markdown (and the other way around).
Wiki links — Link to another note with [[Note title]], or in Preview type @ and pick a note from the list (it inserts the same wiki link). On desktop, use Ctrl+click (⌘ on Mac) on the link to open that note. On a phone, tap the wiki link to jump.
Where your data lives — Notes, folders, and most settings are kept in this browser’s storage so the app works offline. They are not sent to the server until you sign in and sync. Clear site data or another browser = that copy is gone unless you’ve synced or exported.
Cloud sync — Tap Account to sign in or create an account. After you’re signed in, use Save in the status strip to push changes to your account. Attachments and password entries follow the same rules.

Attach file

Files are stored on your account (up to 25MB each). The note keeps a compact attachment line — preview shows a card with name, type, and size. Allowed types include images, PDF, CSV, text, JSON, Office documents, ZIP, audio, and video.

Add task

Creates a task in this note and adds it to the Tasks panel. Markdown stores a ```task block with lines such as t: (title), d: (due), s: (status), and optional p: c: h: x:.

Creates a flip card. Markdown stores qt: (question), an: (short answer), and optional dt: (longer details on the back).

Type an address — suggestions come from Photon (OpenStreetMap data, public service — please don’t hammer it). Or enter latitude, longitude (e.g. 48.858, 2.294). Pick a row or use Show on map to pin, then Insert map.

Powered by x-spreadsheet (MIT): toolbar, undo/redo, formats, merge, context menu, insert/delete rows and columns, copy/paste, and formulas. The note preview still uses the built-in evaluator for fenced sheet blocks (only cell text is saved to the note).

Sync conflict

The same note or folder was changed both on this device and on your account. We need you to pick which copy becomes the source of truth for everything.

Tip: use Import/Export for a file backup if you are unsure.

End-to-end encryption

Cloud encrypt hides your workspace library JSON from the server’s view of note text and structure. The service can still associate activity with your account, see timing and approximate sizes, and serve attachment uploads (those files are not encrypted by Cloud encrypt yet). The outer shape of the encrypted vault is visible; your passphrase stays on this device.

These six words unlock your encrypted cloud library if you forget your passphrase. Store them offline or in a password manager. Anyone with this phrase can read your synced library JSON.
